MUD Grad Profile: Inbal Neer

Inbal Neer

“You have to LOVE what you do… that’s the only way to succeed!”

When Inbal Neer graduated from Make-Up Designory (MUD) in 2001, she was one step closer to achieving the career of her dreams. Her introduction to make-up began in high school, when a family friend and celebrity make-up artist gave her a glimpse into the exciting world of professional make-up artistry. At that point, Inbal decided that she had to learn all there was to know about make-up. She enrolled at MUD during the summer after her high school graduation, and studied Beauty and Character Make-up as well as Studio Hairstyling.

Eight years later, Inbal has built a career working with top designers, photographers, models, musicians and celebrities. Her assignments have spanned a wide range of industries, and included a position teaching make-up at the John Casablancas Modeling School in Beverly Hills. In the last year alone, she has worked on a variety of commercials and music videos for brands and entertainment personalities such as Playboy’s Girls Next Door, Guitar Hero, Dr. Scholls, Snoop Dogg, Exhibit, Ray J., Sean Kingston, Paul Mitchell and Patrón tequila. She describes the Guitar Hero commercial shoot at the Playboy Mansion as one of her favorite assignments: “The director was amazing…[it was] just a really cool experience.”

Inbal cites her husband and colleagues, including fellow make-up artists, hair stylists, directors and models as sources of inspiration for her work. She also gets new ideas from magazines, and loves the work of artist Billy Brasfield, whom she considers a major trendsetter. She credits the MUD Jobs board as a great resource, adding, “I used it in the beginning to meet people in the industry. It really helped me build my book! Now I use it to look for new assistants, and I love it.” For aspiring make-up artists, she stresses the importance of hard work, in order to maximize your exposure, saying, “Work your butt off! Do as many test shoots and trade projects as possible. That is the only way to get the best experience and meet great people in the industry!”
